I’ve struggled so much with writing this post – the photos were uploaded instantly, but the words managed to elude me. I’ve spent countless hours staring at a blank screen, writing and scribbling out drafts that spiralled into a rambling mess of confused words and general nonsense…and I think I may have just figured out why.
You see – the main purpose of this night (apart from having a date night) was to see the new Nick Cave movie One More Night with Feeling, and after looking forward to it for such a long time, I left feeling quite empty. I’m not even sure if that’s the right word…
Watching it made me feel uncomfortable, agitated even, and i still can’t seem to adequately put my thoughts and feelings into words.
It is definitely very moving, visually stunning and the soundtrack (the Skeleton Tree album that was released the next day) has grown on me increasingly, to the point that it is now one of my favourites.
I did not enjoy the parts where the director was involved – interviewing or just inserting himself into the story. It felt intrusive and grated on me so much that I struggled to let it go. Maybe that has a lot to do with how I feel – or my general confusion about how I feel about the movie. I felt the director was exploiting the tragedy that had occurred and therefore watching it felt wrong…
At the moment that’s about as much sense as I can make of all of it.
this photo of me and my crazy eyes actually portrays my current confusion and inability to put my thoughts and feelings into words…
We had dinner first at After the Tears in Elsternwick, and after hearing so many wonderful things about the food we decided to order many small plates to share. Potato blintzes, pierogi, schnitzels and lamb croquettes (which are not pictured because we were gluttons and ordered more after haha)
We also broke our alcohol ban because their menu had more alcohol than food! Plus sparkling and violet?!! How could I resist!
My forever favourite dinner date ♥
It was my first time at the Classic Cinem and I kind of kicked myself for not discovering it earlier! It’s one of the closest cinemas to me and their menu alone is amazing!
We had more drinks (hey – once we broke our ban…) followed by a giant popcorn, soda and a rocky road choc top for me – because yay! I am a child! Haha i did manage to forget I put it in my bag until an hour into the show…so that was interesting! Still delicious, even though the ice cream was rather liquified.
So there it is – my confusing thoughts on the Nick Cave movie, and photos of the tastiest meal I’ve had in a while!
Did anyone else see One More Time with Feeling? What were your thoughts?
My weekly list was a bit delayed this week, but thankfully it ended up timing perfectly with this news…
David Lynch is hinting at something being unveiled on September 27th and i’m so fricken excited!!!! ♥ ♥ ♥
I seriously clicked on every single one of these links (and then spent way too long moving the mouse over the numbers here haha), and it only increased my joy of what is to come!
Just give me coffee, donuts and tell me all of the secrets please! 😉
Megan Mckean from Mckean Studios has a brand new book being released called Hello Sydney! and it looks so cute! As stated over on their website:
Hello Sydney! is both a visual and educational treat for children aged 3-6 years. Sydneysiders or visitors to Sydney will love this illustrative and playful celebration of one of Australia’s great cities
Their new Sydney range has also been released, with brooches, scarves, bangles and prints too! I’ve got three of their city bangles (San Fran, Palm Springs and Tokyo) and their cute cactus and martini brooches and I love them! the book is available for pre-order over here.
Apartment Therapy wrote an article on “Breakfast Machines that really actually exist’ and number one is my new breakfast dream! ♥
The Nostalgia 3-in-1 family size breakfast station makes your coffee, toast and has a cooktop to fry your bacon and eggs! umm..?!! yes please!! It would be absolutely perfect in a tiny home too (can I ever not refer things back to tiny homes? haha probably not) plus it’s also adorably retro! Now if only there was a waffle making component in there too… 😉
I hope everyone is having a wonderful week. If you need me I’ll just be here, staring at the playinglynch website and watching as that clock keeps ticking down!
It’s been six months to the day since my sweet friends Jadey and Tim got married (woohoo!) and their wedding was recently featured on the Vintage Bride Magazine blog ♥
The photos are beautiful, as was the day itself, with an ice cream van rolling up after the ceremony and a reception filled with music played by the Galaxy of Stars Revue (aka the bride, the groom and their friends!) – it honestly felt like I had stepped into a scene from a ridiculously cool movie! the vibe was electric – the room hummed with a crazy intense energy and as cliche as it sounds, you could definitely feel the love in the room.
I was so honoured to be a bridesmaid and be able to stand up beside one of my oldest and dearest friends as she and Tim embarked on this new chapter in their lives ♥ I was definitely feeling all the feels and I spent the entire day beaming and/or crying – usually a strange combination of both!
Note that somehow my makeup stayed on my face! no touch ups necessary and boy did I test it all out! (so many happy tears! ♥) way to go makeup magicians!
Such a beautiful day to celebrate such a wonderful couple!
Happy 6 month anniversary guys ♥
love you long time

We did it! Melbourne gave us a whole two (and a half!) days of sunny, warm, beautiful Spring weather…before disappearing as quickly as it arrived. But ohh how lovely it was while it lasted!
I managed to bust out two of my new vintage dresses – my blue gingham wrap dress from Gypsy Goth Vintage as well as a summery pink floral dress i picked up from Yesterday People, and I was as happy as could be ♥
Winter has had me wearing the same dresses over and over again and I just can’t wait for bare legs and an endless supply of vintage pretties to parade around in.
I’m so excited that I may have purchased another couple of pretties for my collection! ♥ ♥ eeee somebody please stop me already (but actually don’t because YAY cute new vintage dresses!!) I know I said that i’m buying these to ‘replace’ the older dresses in my collection, but who am I kidding! It’s more so that I can rotate all of them ♥ vintage dress hoarder right here. 😉
So please, come on down Spring! we’re so ready for you.
Happy 3 1/2 year anniversary Mikey! ❤️
(haha any excuse to post one of my fave pics of us, right?!)
and yes – i know! we don’t actually celebrate our half year anniversaries, but it’s today and I came across this photo of me almost flashing out the front of City Hall, so here we are 🙂
We’ve got such a busy week ahead of us and somehow the weather is meant to be somewhat spring-like! (Well, for 3 days at least!) fingers crossed! I might even be able to bust out a few of my new vintage dresses along with my unbearably pale legs! Haha please be kind Melbourne!
Wednesday night we have dinner plans with friends we haven’t seen since before we got married (see! Tying in the wedding pic to the post! 😉 haha), so we’ve definitely got loads to catch up on there!
Then Thursday we’re heading out for dinner and a movie – namely to see the new Nick Cave film One More Time With Feeling. It’s showing at 9pm at a whole host of cinemas all over the country (and world even!), before his new album Skeleton Tree drops tomorrow and it’s bound to stir up the emotions! I’m packing a box of tissues just in case (I have a habit of crying at everything!)
Friday night is burger night (one of my favourite traditions!), while Saturday and Sunday are going to be slow lazy days filled wth brunch and coffe dates – my favourite! ❤️
I know it doesn’t seem that busy to most, but I’m a total homebody – especially on weeknights! I work Monday to Friday and after work it’s straight home for dinner – it’s a habit I find hard to break. While I would love to be spontaneous, weeknights are sacred home-time to me ♥ In saying that, i’m definitely looking forward to the break in routine. You’ve got to stir things up every now and then.
Alright, let’s get this week started!
And somehow it’s September…
While I’m sad to say farewell to my birthday month, I’m definitely glad to see the end of this horrible back pain! This past week and a half has definitely tested my patience, and also taught me that I need to learn to slow (and calm) down.
I’ve always known it’s not one of my strong points, but I never realised just how difficult it is for me to relax! What’s with that?!
I’m my own worst critic, always, and I find a way to overanalyse anything and everything! There’s nothing like being stuck in bed to show you your complete lack of patience. (case in point – right after doing my back in I walked to work! I missed the bus and instead of just calling in sick, I struggled through to get there, only to be rightfully sent home! So stubborn!)
So for September I want to learn to slow down a little (a lot?), take a deep breath, stop overanalysing and just be and live more in the moment…
Definitely not too much to ask, right?
Happy first few days of Spring (or Fall for my friends up north!)
Today is for coffee and donuts and fresh flowers from the farmers market (always!) ♥
