i’ve had a few friends have asked me for some book reccomendations recently, and it made me realise that i haven’t allowed myself the time (or space) to just sit down with a good book and read.
to be honest, the last cluster of books i read were all self-help style (and that was towards the end of last year! whooops!) I would definitely recommend them though!
- Essentialism by Greg Mckeown
- Everything that remains by The Minimalists
- French Children don’t throw food by Pamela Druckerman (loved this!)
- the life changing magic of tidying by Marie Kondo (starting to re-read this)
- Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
- The Artists Way by Julia Cameron
- the crossroads of should and must by Elle Luna
a recent stop at the Book Grocer changed everything though, as they’re having a closing down sale (noooo!) so all of their books are now $6. i decided to stock up on whatever caught my eye so my new Winter reading list is as follows:
- Creativity, Inc. by Ed Catmull
- Thrive by Arianna Huffington
- Maggie Cassidy by Jack Kerouac
- Several short sentances about writing by Verlyn Klinkenborg
- Jack’s Book (because clearly I have a thing for Jack Kerouac…)
- How Proust can change your life by Alain De Botton
I’m still (slowly!) making my way through the Artists way, though it is more of a work-in-progress manual/guide more than anything, and i’ve been carrying Several short sentances about writing around with me, as it’s a really brilliant witty read.
Have you got any book suggestions? What’s been your favourite read of Winter/Summer so far?
let me know in the comments below.
Have a happy week friends
Melbourne and rainy days go hand in hand, especially in winter. some days it reminds me of London and i love it, while other days i feel myself getting stir crazy and just praying for a glimpse of sunshine! today im embracing it.
We’ve got another wet cold week ahead (hello 9 degrees on Friday!) and it’s got me thinking back to traipsing through alleyways with my Mama and Aunty. exploring anywhere (and everywhere) is made that much more special when you’re with the people you love ♥
Happy Monday friends! I hope this week is a good one for you x
you know your rose gold obsession has reached all new heights when you set an alarm reminder on your phone to let you know when a shoe you’re in love with is going on sale…
not saying that i did this(…), but i’m now the proud owner of this pair of Radical Yes “all seeing” lace ups!
and yes – you’re correct in remembering that i did recently buy a pair of gold leather shoes (as Mike rightly pointed out right before i clicked purchase…) but they weren’t flats, and they also did not have the super padded athletic shoe quality removable leather footbed (as i pointed out to Mike). hello random justification for wanting to buy ridiculously pretty shoes! ♥
now to work on the rose gold iphone 6 and the macbook… 😉
Happy Friday friends! bring on this weekened x

My week away was full of family, food, sunshine…and a cold! by day two of my holiday i was down and out for the count (so much for warmth and sunshine filling my bones!) pretty sure that was my body relaxing a little too much! (this photo was of my sick face between naps on my brothers birthday! hah! so sickly!)
i suppose kudos to my body for choosing to get sick at the best place possible – my Mamas – where i was able to just relax and be looked after 🙂 thanks Mama ♥
seriously – extra plush tissues, vicks inhalers and vapodrops, strepsils, vitamin c powder and salt water gargling were all enforced, most of which om too lazy to do when im sick at home/work.
i also got ample amounts of sun, even getting burnt while sitting in the sun for brunch! haha im the greatest!
it’s rather fortuitous that while on a daytrip to Byron Bay i decided to pick up this lemon, honey and ginger mix – which turned out to be exactly what i would drink a few winters ago to ward away colds! yes! i managed to finish the entire bottle, so i’ll have to try and find a local supplier down here!
i spent so much time sleeping and just lounging around smothered in Vicks in a big fluffy gown and toasty slippers! oh – and binge watching Gino D’Acampo cooking all over Italy while snacking on tasty foods! haha Hotel Mama for the win 😉
the trip was a success in that i was able to celebrate my brothers birthday with him, eat so much tasty food and see all my loved ones ♥ there’s really nothing more you can ask for (apart from
not getting sick…but i digress…)
so now it’s back to Melbourne – back to winter and back to work. have a happy week everyone. hopefully i can kick this cold soon
i’m sitting at a little cafe at the airport drinking coffee, writing and reading. i’ve been up since 5am as i wanted to make sure i didn’t get delayed or miss my flight, and of course everything has been a breeze and i now have hours left till my flight! i’ll take this over stress anyday, so i can’t complain!
i’m heading north for the next week to spend some (long overdue!) time with my family ♥ it’s my baby brothers 30th and i’m so happy i’m going to be up there to celebrate with him! let the week long party begin! 😉
plus i’m pretty excited to head up to some nice sunny weather – they’re predicting a top of 28 on thursday so i’ll definitelky be making the most of that! pretty sure my pale legs will blind everyone haha (meanwhile in Melbourne, we’re lucky to hit double digits! well it is winter afterall…)
it will be a little quiet over here while i soak up all the family time i can get – i’ve got a whole years worth of catching up to do in one week, so we’ll see how i go.
have a wonderful week
i was just about to write a wish list post to schedule for Monday (as i’m heading away for the week), where this blazer from Scotch & Soda would be right at the top of my list.
I fell in love with in when i was shopping with my Mama and Aunty, but at $449 it was a little beyond my budget 🙁
enter right at this very moment, where i decide to blog about it and as i find the link for it i see that it’s on sale. for $269.
i didn’t want to try it on when i first saw it. i knew i would love it and i knew i could not justify a purchase like that, especially seeing as i purchased a jacket and 2 coats earlier in the year (in preparation for winter). but then i caved and tried it on and started pining straight away. i’m pretty sure i spent the entire afternoon convincing myself why i didn’t need this pretty sparkly blazer (with the adorable star pin) in my life…
so now i need help.
tell me all the reasons i need/don’t need this jacket!
let me start the ball rolling:
it’s super delicate and covered in teeny tiny beads (just waiting to be snagged on all the things i bump into during the day!) and is dry clean only.
it’s also so darling and could dress up or dress down almost anything. and i love it (did i mention that already?) ♥
your turn 😉
Winter is upon us again
With golden trees and heavy earth, grass and leaves crunching underfoot.
I say it every year, but winter has a smell – an intoxicating mix that is best described as Christmas. A heavy woody fragrance of thick pine trees, trodden earth and cinnamon…mainly in the gardens, where momentarily I’m transported to the middle of a deep forest (in my mind i’m somewhereNorth America). It’s like travelling without really travelling…
I know so many people complain of winters coming – of how cold and miserable she is – but I love it♥ the minute the temperature drops I come to life!
The crisp morning air hits me and it’s like I’ve hit a refresh button. New start, new day, new beginning.
Frosty winter mornings with the sun bursting through the trees are something I’ll never tire of.
You’ll see me piling on as many layers as humanly possible (and then some) before heading straight outside to greet that frosty morning and soak up the wonder of the day.
I might not be able to feel my fingers or toes, but I don’t even care!
Welcome back winter! I’ve missed you♥
